These FLB 75's are owned by Unitrans but run under contract to John Syllas - Botswana Transport. This fleet of ten (10) Freightliners are the first Freightliners in Botswana carrying copper from Francistown to Selibe Phikwe. This is a twenty-four hour operation with three drivers per truck. Since hand-over in April 2000 these Freightliner trucks have done over 100 000 kilometres each and have made a record in maintenance and performance within these three months without a single breakdown. This is an ongoing contract for which general service parts will be supplied on consignment. Technical training has been carried out in three sessions in Botswana by Freighliner's Technical Trainer, Harold Rawbone and a further three sessions of driver training has been undertaken. Danie Henning, Market Manager Freightliner Division, believes that because of the good service received with this fleet of Freightliners, Unitrans have ordered a further nine FLB 75 truck-tractors which will haul fuel. The fuel will be loaded in Durban and Cape Town and then transported to Botswana and Zambia.
