March 2003 The Freightliner/MFTB division at DaimlerChrysler South Africa (DCSA) recently delivered its first Freightliner Argosy 90 with Cummins power to Zimbulk cc.
Johan Cloete, Divisional manager for the Freightliner/MFTB division said that he is extremely happy that another large fleet customer is looking at Freightliner for their long-haul operations. “Our goal is for customers to see Freightliner as the preferred choice when it comes to long-haul operations. We congratulate Zimbulk on their smart choice,” Cloete said.
“We had a tough year in 2002 with the unfavourable exchange rate making it difficult for us to sell Freightliners, but the situation has changed and the pricing of our trucks is now far more competitive.”
This particular Argosy 90 is fitted with the latest SmartShift transmission, Cummins ISX500 engine with Road Relay 4 Vehicle Management system, allowing Zimbulk to download all information regarding fuel consumption, average speed, etc. in real time.
Cloete said, “SmartShift in our vehicles has become so popular that we’ve decided to make it standard fitment to all Freightliner Argosy models. The advantages of better fuel consumption, less wear and tear on critical components and stress-free driving have prompted customers to choose Smart Shift.”
“We hope this is the first of many Freightliner Argosy models we can deliver to Zimbulk cc''.
